What is Dermapen?
Dermapen is a revolutionary micro-needling device which aims to tighten, lift and rejuvenate skin. It creates fine micro-injuries in the skin, which triggers the skin to naturally heal and repair itself. During the skin healing process, collagen and elastin production is naturally stimulated and regenerated.
Dermapen creates these fine micro-injuries by vertically piercing the skin with minimal damage to the epidermal (outer) layer. The multiple, fine channels allow for up to 80% more topical nutrients to be delivered deeper into the skin. This increased absorption helps stimulate repair and faster resurfacing.

The Dermapen utilises ultra-fine needles oscillating at a high speed to create thousands of tiny puncture wounds for maximum benefit with minimal downtime, discomfort or damage to the skin.
Medical grade, single use/disposable needles are used to eliminate the risk of cross contamination. While the adjustable speed and needle depth allows for the treatment to be customised to your individual skin concerns.
Dermapen is so advanced it is suitable to use in hard to reach areas, such as around the eyes, nose and lips. The vertical delivery of the needles also makes it easier to penetrate scar tissue.
During the Dermapen skin needling treatment an active serum base (tailored for your skin condition) will be applied on to the skin for maximum absorption and glide; this is called Mesotherapy.
Immediately after the treatment has finished an intensely hydrating and soothing Hyla Active 3D sculpture mask will be applied. Finishing off with an antioxidant serum, moisturiser, and if desired DP Dermaceuticals™ ‘Cover Recover’ camouflage makeup with SPF to seal the skin and cover any redness.
Dermapen’s advanced technology helps this treatment to be a much more comfortable experience for you. For minimal needle depths, Dermapen treatments are relatively painless. Depending on what we are targeting in the skin, you may feel it in some areas as a prickling sensation (most commonly the bony areas) or as some clients say a ‘deeper microdermabrasion’.
At your consultation, your therapist will provide an outline of recommended treatments for you depending on your skin type and condition. Here is a guideline:
|Skin concern||Number of Dermapen treatments required||Number of weeks between treatments|
|Rejuvenation, sun damage, rosacea, enlarged pores||4-6||4-8|
|Acne, congestion, milia||2-4||2-4|
For optimal results using Vitamin A, C & B3 serums and SPF50 daily prior and post treatment is recommended. Darker skin types or clients who are prone to pigmentation must be using a serum containing tyrosinaise inhibitors for at least 2 weeks prior, before we can proceed with the treatment.
We refer to skin needling as a gradual process, but with exceptionally longer lasting results as collagen reproduction takes time. Most clients report an improvement in their skin colour and texture over the 6-8 week period. For epidermal treatments, such as acne or pigmentation, results can show as soon as 2-4 weeks. More significant results are noticeable after a series of treatments.
There is generally minimal to no down time after your treatment. Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment, although we do recommend it is not done in a close time frame to special occasions or intense exercise.
There may be mild to moderate redness immediately after the treatment, which if desired can be covered up with camouflage, make-up in the salon for an immediate return to daily activities. The post-treatment redness looks and feels like mild sunburn, which can last from 1-3 days.
*More information regarding pre-care and post-care will be provided at your consultation.
